Jean Todt discusses The Future of The Automobile - Mulsanne Visionaries (w/VIDEO)

Bentley Motors has commissioned a series of documentary shorts entitled ‘Mulsanne Visionaries’, in which seven innovators provide their insights on the future, in the context of Bentley’s flagship Mulsanne saloon.

Two of the innovators are well known to automotive enthusiasts; World Land Speed Record holder Andy Green and FIA President Jean Todt, while others include bespoke tailor Clive Darby, musician Jean-Michel Jarre, Silvio Denz CEO of glassmaker Lalique, Chinese architect Wang Shu and actor Jackie Chan.

Three of the seven documentaries are already online (Future of Bespoke, Future of The Automobile, Future of Luxury) and provide a fascinating insight into the men behind each story (although I’m curious why Bentley chose not to include any women in the series).

Jean Todt, who most of us know from his days are F1 Team Principal of Scuderia Ferrari, then CEO of Ferrari S.p.A, talks about ‘The Future of the Automobile’, in which he outlines his vision for reduced engine capacities, energy recovery and turbo charging with direct injection – in essence the same direction currently being pursued by Formula One.

He’s a realist though – and while acknowledging the importance of the electric car in this future, sees its use as being exclusive to cities.
