The 2014 Media Ambition Tokyo (MAT) event opens today, featuring eighteen artworks by sixteen of Japan’s most cutting-edge technological artists.

They’re supposed to represent the intersection of technological art, video, music and motion, where this is represented by a series of live shows today and tomorrow night.

The event is sponsored by Lexus, who are the focus of one such piece called ‘physical presence’ by Rhizomatiks, which simply shows a Lexus LF-A Nürburgring Package edition parked in a glass and metal room surrounded by lights and music.

It seems a shame to portray it away from its natural habitat (the race track), but there’s a certain power about the display as we anticipate its 562bhp 4.8-litre V10 engine being started up – which of course it won’t be.

The only other Lexus-specific artwork is the ‘MAT Flipdots Wall’ which is a sound and visual installation that spells out the car maker’s name. Groovy.

The event runs from today until 30th March at two venues; Tokyo City View on the 52nd floor of Roppongi Hills and INTERSECT BY LEXUS in Aoyama.
