The Auto Mobil International show in Leipzig, Germany, which opens its doors on 2 June, will see the first appearance of the new Scirocco GTS, together with other new models including the Volkswagen CC R Line, Beetle Fender and CrossPolo ‘Urban White’.

The new Scirocco GTS tips its hat to the style of its predecessor from 30 years ago, with coloured stripes running up the bonnet, roof and tailgate, like a 1970s touring car racer.

Unique to the GTS are the custom-designed front and rear bumpers, exposed side sills, and black 18-inch ‘Thunder’ alloy wheels (behind which sit red-painted brake callipers), while a diffuser and roof-edge spoiler from the Scirocco R finish the look.

Under the bonnet is the familiar 2.0-litre 4-cylinder 207bhp TSI engine.

Inside the Scrocco GTS is dominated by red and black, and there is also a dimpled golf-ball gear lever knob as introduced in the Mk1 Golf GTi and used in the 1982 Scirocco GTS.
