The performance of hyper cars around the Nürburgring, can sometimes be so overwhelming that we lose sight of what's possible with cars which are considerably more affordable.

Recently, Porsche's £650,000+ prototype 918 Spyder set a lap time of 7 minutes 14 seconds around the 12.9 mile Nordschleife, and although an awesomely quick time, it was propelled by a 784bhp hybrid powerplant and the optional “Weissach” performance package.
