Honda have provided us with a quick glimpse of the New European Civic, prior to its launch at the Frankfurt motor show next month.

The image shows the New Civic’s rear-end with its combination lighting that also works as an aerodynamic spoiler, managing air flow over the top and sides of the car. It looks to be something of an evolutionary change from the 8th generation Civic, which shocked us back in 2006 with its radical new profile and even more radical interior design.

Honda say the 9th generation Civic hatchback will also offer stand-out looks combined with class-leading space for passengers and luggage – and will continue to deliver peace of mind with low running costs, so we’re not expecting a huge departure from today’s model.

What we are expecting is market-leading powerplants and drivetrains – Honda have already mentioned the 2.2-litre i-DTEC engine which emits only 110 g/km of CO2, while producing a powerful 148 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. But the company also believes that customers will have more fun when they drive the New Civic.

It should be worth tuning in on 13 September, when Honda reveals all from their show stand at Frankfurt.
