Some days I feel like I must have gone to sleep and woken in a parallel universe – perhaps the popular TV series, Fringe, is a documentary on life – a fictional metaphor, rather than the science fantasy we first thought?
We live in an age where Aston Martin make a cutesy city car, Lotus seemingly focus more on fashion than engineering and Porsche plan a top-of-the-range electric powered supercar. If we’d painted this vision of the future as recently as 5 years ago, you’d have laughed hysterically and questioned our sanity and yet here we are at the end of 2010 describing exactly such a reality.
Welcome to Fringe Division – Aston Martin’s new luxury city car, Cygnet, will be spending the next 4 weeks parked up on display at Harrods in Knightsbridge, London, chosen as the ideal location to showcase the Cygnet’s natural habitat of luxury and city living.
There’s no word yet on whether it will be available as part of the 2010 Harrods Christmas Hamper, but don’t be surprised to see window shoppers (especially those from across the pond) questioning whether the display is for real.
The Aston Martin Cygnet will go into production in 2011 at Aston’s HQ in Gaydon and will be available to view at Harrods until Saturday 11th December. The Cygnet is on sale now through Aston Martin’s European dealership network.
We’d love to see a picture of a ‘real’ Aston parked outside Harrods with the Cygnet in shot, the irony would be quite amusing..

On a double yellow, Steve? What are you suggesting?!
Ahh yes, that’s true. But the most ironic picture would surely be a One-77 parked on the east-bound lane with the Cygnet on display in the background – surely the Knightsbridge gestapo wouldn’t try and clamp a One-77…? -;)
(actually come to think of it, they’d probably tag team the clamping effort like they did with that matching blue Koenigsegg and Murcielago the other week..

Indeed. I think Al Thani and the Qatari royalty thought that the parking outside their newly-purchased bit of real estate came as a package deal… 😉
