On the eve of the 90th annual Pikes Peak hill climb, Audi and Ducati have come together to support the people that help keep their favourite roads safe.

In June this year a fast-growing wildfire blew up overnight in Colorado and forced 35,000 people from their homes. The blaze in the Pike National Forest, known as the Waldo Canyon Fire, consumed more than 18,000 acres of land and destroyed 346 homes – the single biggest loss of property ever from a Colorado wildfire. Six people perished in the fire and Police continue to investigate the cause, with arson still considered a possible cause.

A special ‘Battle the Blaze’ fund has been established by the PPIHC to support the fire, police and local services that make the Pikes Peak hill climb possible and to help rebuild the local community. The annual hill climb was postponed from its original July spot to this weekend due to the scale of the fire’s impact on the local region.

The two Volkswagen Group companies are offering the chance for a fan to experience the Audi RS 5 and Ducati Multistrada along with a guest in Sonoma, California inviting you to include the hashtag #ComeTogether and http://audi.us/contest in your tweet along with the reason why you’d like to experience both iconic brands together.

The video (above) provides a taste of what to expect, and whilst most people originally thought Audi would produce the Pikes Peak RS 5 as a special edition, the company has yet to confirm this.

It’s a pretty cool competition, albeit with a mild whiff of exploitation given the absence of any clear benefit to the people of Colorado, apart from the link to PPIHC’s donation page.

Perhaps if Audi or Ducati made their own donation we’d view the campaign more favourably.
