BMW’s fastest ever models will be priced from £80,205 here in the UK. For that you get a 567bhp M5 saloon. The same powerplant in a M6 will cost between £100,680 (for the Coupé) and £103,200 (for the Gran Coupé).

The M5 Saloon with Competition Package is based on the new LCI (life cycle update) 5 Series, although you’ll struggle to distinguish between the latest M5 and its pre-facelift version.

Changes are confined to a new M Double-spoke kidney grille (from the M6 Coupé and Convertible), new M Steering Wheel with M DCT paddles, plus on the outside there are new tail lights featuring BMW’s Thin Blade technology.

The Competition Package on all models includes new more sporting suspension settings, sports steering, sports exhaust with black chrome exhaust tailpipes and exclusive 20-inch Double-spoke M light-alloy wheels. Other new options include 20-inch alloy wheels in black, an enhanced colour palette, upholstery and interior trim choice plus adaptive LED headlights.

The Active M Differential is tuned to enhance agility during cornering while M Dynamic Mode (MDM) is tuned to allow higher thresholds of slip before the intervention of DSC.

The Competition Package comes as a £6,700 option on top of the existing ‘standard’ M5, or £6,500 on an M6 Coupé and Convertible and £5,500 on the M6 Gran Coupé.
