The Kia GT4 Stinger is a two-door sports car powered by a tuned version of the company’s 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder (T-GDI) engine and delivering an impressive 311bhp.
It will be unveiled at next week’s North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) and mark the most significant change in direction in the car maker’s 70-year history. Kia are better known for their family cars and SUVs, so a 2+2 sports car, even one powered by a humble four-cylinder engine, is a step into the unknown.
A company spokesperson said, “[the GT4 Stinger] is aimed at delivering head-turning looks whilst providing superb driving enjoyment whether on the road or at the track.”
Designed at Kia’s American Design Centre in California, the ‘Ignition Yellow’ painted GT4 Stinger features the latest ‘Tiger Nose’ grille flanked by vertical LED headlamps. Front-brake cooling vents funnel air around 20-inch wheels, whilst a carbon fibre front splitter mounted below the bumper provides added downforce.
The GT4 Stinger’s tuned turbocharged engine transmits its power to the rear wheels via a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission, while 275/35R20 sized Pirelli P-Zero tyres provide the grip.
Tucked inside these oversized wheels are a pair of Brembo Gran Tourismo two-piece cross-drilled rotors with four-piston callipers. The chassis is custom built and features independent double wishbone suspension all round.
Full details will be revealed at next week’s Detroit Auto Show.
