“BMW M is preparing something new” – well we already know it’s the new 3-litre turbocharged M3/M4 and to whet our appetites BMW have released this teaser video showing an engineer staring at his laptop while the M3/M4 tries to break free of the rolling road it’s been strapped to.
It sounds a lot like the 1 Series M Coupé, which in turn was a little docile compared to the outgoing 4.0-litre V8 engined M3 and our favourite six-cylinder ‘M’ – the E46 M3 CSL.

We’ll know more in just over a week’s time – the new M3/M4 is rumoured for a Frankfurt Motor Show debut and BMW’s marketing machine is gearing up for its online reveal beforehand.
Stay tuned – the new M3/M4 will be revealed very soon.
BMW say their focus with the M4 coupé was weight reduction, using lightweight engineering to deliver its performance, but then there’s nothing ‘new’ in that – the M3 CSL featured a carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof and honeycomb cardboard material used in its boot carpet.
Nevertheless, there will be lots of carbon fibre, lightweight alloy wheels but still plenty of power – expect around 450bhp from the M3/M4’s turbocharged six-cylinder engine mated to a seven-speed M DCT Drivelogic transmission.
All will be revealed (very) soon.
