McLaren Special Operations (MSO) is the organisation within McLaren Automotive who produce bespoke customer vehicles, but they’ve expanded their repertoire to include concepts, limited-edition specials and heritage-inspire one-offs such as last year’s 50th anniversary 12C and 12C Spider.

The 650S Coupé Concept is being presented as a one-off design study with some of the parts being available to order now from your local McLaren retailer. Priced at £5,114 for the side blades and £7,245 for the rear diffuser, the MSO treatment can be applied to both 650S and 12C, since apart from the P1-like nose on the 650S, both models remain aesthetically very similar.

The complete car features an array of bespoke MSO upgrades, including the special ‘Agrigan Black’ paint finish which changes colour in direct sunlight and contrasts with the satin-finished carbon fibre highlights. These include air intakes, a more prominent front splitter, aggressive side blades and rear diffuser which improve the car’s aerodynamic performance and give it a more dramatic appearance.

The engine bay looks resplendent with its satin black engine covers and a satin finish is applied to all existing carbon fibre parts. To finish off its purposeful exterior the MSO 650S sits on a set of satin black finished lightweight ‘650S’ alloy wheels, shod with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres.

Inside, the MSO treatment continues with fixed-back carbon fibre racing seats, based on the lightweight design found in the McLaren P1. They’re finished in carbon black leather and position occupants lower in the car, while saving 15kg over the standard items.

Satin carbon fibre features throughout the cabin, contrasting with the switchgear and bezels that are finished in contrasting gloss black.

The MSO 650S will be shown throughout China during the next few weeks, while MSO monitoring reaction and consider its production future.
