The new Mercedes-Benz GLA is another model due to make its debut at next month’s Frankfurt motor show – joining the growing class of premium compact SUVs including the Range Rover Evoque and Audi’s Q3.
It’s a little different to the Concept GLA shown at Auto Shanghai 2013 and is based on Mercedes’ new MFA compact vehicle architecture, as used in the A-Class, B-Class and CLA.
The GLA is 4,383mm in length, 1,978mm in width and 1,579 in height and will be powered by a range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines including the 2-litre 208bhp turbocharged petrol engine shown in the Concept GLA.
Mercedes describe the GLA as “a compact SUV that combines its sporting spirit with the all-round qualities of a tough, leisure-time companion. ‘Escape the everyday’ is the message that this car conveys to its driver.”.
No doubt it will become a big seller for Mercedes-Benz as customers downsize from their full-sized SUVs to something more appropriate in the urban jungle.
