Just in time for this afternoon’s 24 hour race we bring you news of BMW’s official Nürburgring edition iPhone app, letting you chart the progress of one of the favourite teams throughout the event.
Following on from Audi’s iPhone app, BMW’s is also free to download and comes with the usual news and team info sections you’d expect in an official manufacturer’s app.
There is plenty of content in the news section in the form of exclusive interviews with the main players involved from the drivers to the team management allowing you to really see the contributions from all angles into one of the biggest motorsport weekends of the year.
There are also photo galleries in the app and whilst they are neatly subdivided into little sections, the photos cannot be viewed in their full size unlike the Audi app which is a shame. However, the app does have a small wallpaper section that is much better, as demonstrated by how I’ve just set the M3 GT2 as my wallpaper.

A nicely designed map and guide of the circuit is the strongest feature of the app that should hopefully come fully to life when the chequered flag falls at 15:00. Be sure to also check out the neat little 3D overview of the car.
Even if BMW aren’t your favourite team, for free, you can’t go wrong in at least trying out the app that is also compatible on the iPad and iPod touch.
The app is available now in the App Store if you under the name “The Official BMW Motorsport App. Edition Nurburgring 2010.” The official race “24h-Rennen” app is also available in the app store for £1.19.
