The Bugatti Grand Sport Venet, is a unique one-off piece created by acclaimed contemporary sculptor, Bernar Venet, celebrating the artist’s life-long obsession with mathematical formulae.
The car will be on view at the Rubell Family Collection in Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach, held from Wednesday, December 5th through to Sunday, December 9th. The Rubell Family Collection is one of the largest, privately owned collections of contemporary art and has featured the work of Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol and Jeff Koons – the man responsible for the 2010 M3 GT2 Art Car.
Look beyond the car’s gold/brown shades and you’ll notice mathematical formulae covering the front and side panels, all derivations used in calculating the enormous power of its 8-litre, 16-cylinder, quad-turbocharged, 987bhp Bugatti engine.
Venet describes the idiom as self-referential, which is why he chose to display the tremendous power and speed of the Bugatti Grand Sport on the car’s interior and exterior surfaces. Consider it a posh version of Ian Cook’s Pop Bang Colour..
Achim Anscheidt, Chief Designer at Bugatti said, “The self-image of the Bugatti brand derives from an artistic identity that unites sketch, drawing, technical planning and realization into an intermedial whole. Bernar Venet doubly honours our brand by making reference to the technical formulae of our engineers without fully revealing their secrets.”
It’s certainly an unusual work of art, and will no doubt be worth many millions more than a standard Grand Sport with its Bernar Venet custom finish.
If you’re over in Miami Beach for Art Basel, then go and take a look for yourself, the car will be on display between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm from Wednesday through to this coming Sunday.
