Honda Performance Development, the American racing company of Honda, will return to Pikes Peak in 2013 with its NSX Project and no fewer than nine other Honda vehicles including cars, motorcycles and ATVs.
The company has taken limited sponsorship of the event and will campaign vehicles in multiple classes, with an eye toward challenging for the overall victory.
Such an onslaught of 10 vehicles, will set the record for the number of classes entered by a single manufacturer.
This year’s ‘Race to the Clouds’ gained extra significance last month when Peugeot announced their entry, with the purpose-built 208 T16. The car will be driven by reigning World Rally Champion Sébastien Loeb, who follows in the legendary footsteps of Ari Vatanen, whose 1988 win was immortalised in Jean-Louis Mourey’s film, ‘Climb Dance’.
Honda will have their work cut out if they’re aiming for overall victory – their 2012 Pikes Peak NSX Project finished fourth with a time of 11 minutes 42 seconds – so for an outright win they’ll need a considerably faster car.
