Robert Kubica seriously injured in Andora Rally

Lotus Renault driver Robert Kubica is undergoing surgery on multiple fractures after suffering a high-speed accident while competing in the Ronde di Andora Rally in Italy. The 26-year-old Pole is said to be in a stable condition after surgery and although his injuries weren't life-threatening, it is unlikely that Kubica will be fit by the time the 2011 F1 season begins on March 13th.

Sorry I couldn't resist the headline - it was inspired by Lotus' announcement this morning that the Senna name is once again united with Lotus as Bruno Senna signs with Lotus Renault GP as third driver and also becomes the latest ambassador for Group Lotus.

We couldn't help smiling at the by-now obligatory picture of the current/past F1 star next to a Lotus Evora - it has become a rite of passage for famous motor racing visitors to Lotus' Hethel headquarters, although we can't help wondering why one of the New Era models wasn't used instead (at least for the photo call).
