I always find it annoying when buying a RS, M or AMG version from my favourite marque, only to find a few years later that its unique styling details filter down into regular models in the range.
Sometimes it might just be the wheel design (Audi’s RS-wheel design), and other times the front or rear valance (M5 to 5 Series Sport), either way the temptation to flog a faux version of such brand icons becomes too much to resist for most car makers.
Audi’s TT RS, which is not exactly a volume seller, has become the latest to be sacrificed in the pursuit of mainstream model sales. The TT Coupé S line competition special edition is available in engine versions up to 208bhp (155 kW) and combines all the elements of the S line sport package, S line exterior package and a few exclusive new features – all for an attractive package price of just €4,300.
The S line exterior package includes specially designed bumpers, air inlets and side sills, S line badges, tailpipe trims and a distinctive diffuser insert. There is also a fixed rear wing like on the Audi TT RS, plus Xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights.
The paint finishes Samoa Orange metallic, Glacier White metallic, Daytona Gray pearl effect and Misano Red pearl effect are available at no extra charge, which contrast with the sporty black styling package. Other S line competition elements in high-gloss black are the exterior mirror housings, the blade below the front bumper, the diffuser insert, the tailpipe trims and the rear wing spoiler.
19-inch “Rotor” design alloy wheels are painted black and shod with 255/35 series tyres, while the firmer S line sport suspension lowers the chassis by 10 millimetres (0.39 mm).
The interior of the TT Coupé S line competition makes use of the S line sport package features including special door sill trims, extended aluminium-look trim, leather package, sport seats and short-shift gear lever for manual transmissions cars.
Further TT RS features include its flat-bottomed multifunction sport steering wheel and piping surrounds for the floor mats.
Audi are yet to confirm if the TT Coupé S line competition will be made available in the UK, but we’d rather pay a little more and opt for the hugely capable TTS.
