This remarkable car is the SLR Stirling Moss. Inspired by the Mercedes 300SLR that the legendary British racer drove to victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia road race, the SLR Stirling Moss is a spectacular swansong for the McLaren-built Mercedes supercar.

UGLY.
The 300SLR was quite an attractive car, this takes all of those styling cues, and then puts these through a special design package called ‘shit-scribble’, and churns out this crap. Stirling must have been quite proud to give his name to this vehicle….ahead of seeing it.
Here is an excerpt of the Marketing guff on the design…very amusing ‘Even when standing still, the sports car radiates such dynamism that the observer immediately falls under its spell’. You can find the rest of this nonsense here: http://jalopnik.com/5113933/2009-mercedes-mclaren-slr-sterling-moss
This in my mind comes close to eclipsing the Veritas for tasteless design.
I know what I would spend my 750,000 Euros on…and it wouldn’t be this shit-sculpture. Excuse the language, but his kind of thing makes me cross.

Thanks for those erudite words Kermit

I’m intrigued that Mercedes has gone to the trouble of changing the front from the regular SLR, wonder if this hints at the design of the so called gullwing due in the future?
As for this thing no thanks

A terrible affront to the name of Sir Stirling. Like an SLR that got left in the autoclave too long. A cynical marketing exercise to shift the last few SLR shells, certainly won’t fix any of the inherent SLR flaws that have been chronicled by just about every auto mag on earth.
Park them all out the back and concentrate on the Gullwing please. And McLaren hurry up and finish that….P10 or whatever it is called.

As a further effort to convince you of the authentic heritage of the SLR Stirling Moss, Mercedes have now launched a promo video…

I love cars like the Mercedes W196 Streamliner and D Type Jaguar, I even like the McMerc SLR – but this just doesn’t look ‘right’ to me. Looks like a kit car from the side (sorry McLaren!) maybe the modern sharp lines don’t suit this kind of shape. Given the cash I’d rather plump for the new V10 Weismann if I wanted a modern retro sportscar.
I’m disappointed that the company which gave us the F1 can produce such a bloated thing as this !
