No, this is not the car which Lamborghini have been gradually revealing in recent teaser images, but the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition is still a mouth-watering prospect for fans of the Raging Bull.

You are no doubt aware of the popular Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo – the world’s fastest one-make series, well this new model has been produced to celebrate the series success and is being launched at today’s final race weekend of the year at the “Piero Taruffi” circuit, Vallelunga.

In this special configuration, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition features a mighty rear spoiler for maximum stability with the engine cover optimised for maximum ventilation, derived directly from the race car. The LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition is also equipped with Skorpius wheels with yellow-painted brake callipers and discs made, of course, from carbon-ceramic composite. One striking visual feature that fits perfectly with the matt black paintwork is the carbon-fibre used to make external components, such as the diffuser and mirror casings.

The attention to detail and generous use of carbon-fibre make this a very special place to sit.

This new sports car from Sant’Agata boasts a dry weight of no more than 1340 kilograms (2954 lb) – the lightest road-going model in Lamborghini’s range.

One key factor in this low weight is the extensive use of carbon-fibre throughout both exterior and interior components. Carbon-fibre is ideal for the manufacture of sports cars as its use allows for both weight reduction and improved mechanical features. The car’s performance is thus enhanced thanks to a better power-to-weight ratio and reduced total mass, which also benefits CO2 emissions.

“Lamborghini is extremely happy about its cooperation with Blancpain. In just its second year, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo has established itself in the premier league of gentlemen’s racing,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “Each race is a battle of dedication and passion for every single hundredth of a second – something that characterizes both of our brands. The Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition demonstrates the close bond between our road-going super sports cars and the race car.”

The interior of the Blancpain Edition further reinforces the character of the Gallardo without sacrificing the comfort of the driver and passenger. The entire interior is finished in black Alcantara with yellow accents and visible carbon-fibre. The Blancpain logo is placed on the exterior and also featured on the seats and cockpit in yellow stitching. Power for the Gallardo LP 570-4 Blancpain Edition comes courtesy of the 562 bhp V10 power unit from the standard Superleggera production car – the same engine used in the Super Trofeo race car. The Gallardo’s all-wheel drive transmission ensures perfect driveability in all conditions.

“This is a very intense and dynamic partnership between companies from highly disparate sectors, but with the same drive for innovation and mechanical excellence,” says Marc A. Hayek, President and CEO of Blancpain. “For me, Blancpain has always been a true revolutionary – even a little crazy – with the spirit of adventure.”

Performance of the 562 bhp Blancpain Edition is suitably special – The 5.2 litre V10 power unit takes the car from rest to 62 mph in just 3.4 seconds, reaching the 124 mph (200 km/h) mark only 6.8 seconds later, and topping out just shy of the double-ton at 199 mph (320 km/h).
