A single run out version of the Twingo Renaultsport 133 has gone on sale, priced at £13,955, excluding the optional Cup chassis. It’s the last time we’ll see a performance version of the Twingo until a new model arrives next year, based on the funky new Twin’Z and Twin’Run concepts.
For the time being Renaultsport’s baby will be available – while stocks last – with its naturally-aspired 131bhp 1.6-litre engine, revving to 6,750rpm and powering just 1050kg.

The Renaultsport 133 both endeared and frustrated in equal measure – frisky and playful on B-roads, yet tiring and out of its element on motorways. We ran one as a long-termer back in 2008 and it was always a popular choice on the twisty roads near Silverstone where we were based.
Since then it’s been updated, with an onboard ‘Renaultsport Monitor’ telemetry system, 16 or 17-inch alloy wheels and an F1-inspired front blade.
So what’s next?
Well the 320 horsepower mid-engined V6 and rear-wheel-drive Twin’Run concept would make an excellent replacement, although would be highly unlikely.
Officially there’s been no confirmation of a replacement, but with its bigger brother, the Clio Renaultsport 200 Turbo EDC, adopting a forced-induction powerplant, we’d like to see something similar being used to extend the Twingo’s long-range appeal.
However just leave the manual gearbox alone, that’s been one of the joys of Renaultsport cars in the past and Renault owe its fans at least one model in the range which retains the elementary appeal of the classic French hot hatch.
