This morning Mercedes-Benz released driving shots of the new C63 AMG for 2011, which takes on board the changes made to the C-Class announced last month.

As with other the models in the range the new 2011 C63 AMG sports the new front lights which embrace a revised front-grille with its enlarged Mercedes-Benz star and wing-shaped spurs. The front is further enhanced by AMG-specific LED daytime running lights and side air vents reminiscent of the front end of the SL 63 AMG roadster.

The new bonnet with its power domes is now made of aluminium, and together with modified 18-inch AMG wheels and a new rear apron round off the changes for the 2011 model year.

Power and performance figures remain the same, although the C63 is now around 10 per cent more economical recording 23.54 mpg on the combined cycle (22.97 mpg for the C63 Estate), this is mainly due to a new power steering pump and the AMG speed-shift MCT 7-speed sports transmission which now offers a standard “Controlled efficiency” driving programme.

The C63’s 6.2-litre engine continues to offer 451 bhp but the optional AMG Performance Package lift this to a more appealing 480 bhp, reducing the C63 Saloon’s 0-62 mph acceleration time down to 4.4 seconds (4.5 seconds for the C63 Estate). The AMG Performance Package gain comes from more than just a remap – forged pistons, connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft from the SLS AMG are deployed in delivering the 30 bhp boost.

As you can see from the photos, the AMG Performance Package also introduces some tasty aesthetic enhancements to the C63 – red-painted brake callipers all around, a carbon lip spoiler on the boot lid (saloon) and an AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather and alcantara.

Pricing for the power upgrades in Germany are 7166 € for the saloon and 6472 € for the Estate, we don’t expect any C63 AMG spec or pricing details for a good few weeks, but we should be able to bring you news prior to Geneva at the beginning of March.

Nice eh?

Ed – it looks like someone in the press department over in Stuttgart pressed the button on this news before the planned release date and we happened to pick it up, before it was subsequently removed. We’ll have the full spec details for the 2011 C63 AMG, when they are made public next Tuesday (1st Feb).
