The sixth instalment of the Fast & Furious film series previews tomorrow in London, and you’ll notice a certain Italian hatchback feature strongly in its advertising campaign.

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta provides a makeshift platform from which actor Paul Walker’s character (Brian O’Conner) saves the day.

First, the car disembarks from an enormous Antonov aircraft during take-off, then attempts to stop the cargo plane’s take-off in a breathtaking chase sequence (see 1:30 min into the trailer), which ends with the Giulietta forcing the aircraft off the runway (who said action films need to be believable?)

The entire sequence was shot using a pair of Alfa Romeo Giuliettas, suitably modified for the scene, and which are now being showcased back in Italy proudly sporting their film-shoot damage.

It’s the first time that a film in the series has been shot in Europe, and will be in cinemas from Friday 17th May.

Never ones to miss an opportunity, the scenes from the thrilling runway chase sequence are now being used in a new Giulietta advert – on Italian TV, and soon to be shown at a billboard/TV channel near you.

Fast & Furious 6 was directed by Justin Lin and stars actors Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Luke Evans, Elsa Pataky and Gina Carano.
