Jaguar will reveal F-TYPE design study at Goodwood

Jaguar will show a unique version of its F-TYPE convertible at Goodwood this weekend, which will be driven up the hill by Chief Engineer, Mike Cross.

It will join the public debut of three new Jaguar ‘R’ models – XFR-S, XJR and XKR-S GT, all sharing the same 542bhp supercharged V8 engine – plus a stunning display of heritage models including XJR-9, XJ13, D-type and XK 120.

A stunning new art installation, inspired by Jaguar design and created by Royal College of Art students Ewan Gallimore and Claire Miller, will also be on display.

The new F-TYPE chassis will also be on show at the Jaguar stand, allowing visitors to examine its all-aluminium structure close up.

Jaguar’s 542bhp XKR-S GT will be driven up the hill by two celebrity drivers – six-time Olympic Champion Sir Chris Hoy on Friday 12th and Gran Turismo producer Kazunori Yamauchi on Saturday 13th July.

Le Mans winner Andy Wallace will be behind the wheel on Sunday.

Jaguar’s heritage cars will also take to the hill and include; the record-breaking Jaguar XK 120, driven for seven days and seven nights at an average speed of more than 100mph in 1952; Jaguar D-type chassis no.1 which was a development and Le Mans reserve car; the Group C Jaguar XJR-9 which won Le Mans in 1988 and the thunderous 5.0-litre V12 powered Jaguar XJ13 (the only one in existence) – which was developed for Le Mans but never raced.

The record breaking XK120 was originally driven by Sir Stirling Moss, among others, while the XJR-9 competed at Le Mans in the hands of Andy Wallace, Jan Lammers and Johnny Dumfries – Wallace will be reunited with his winning car for a drive up the hill at this 20th anniversary Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The precise nature of Jaguar’s F-TYPE design study remains a closely-guarded secret, and while a coupé variant has been spotted on the roads near Gaydon, Jaguar’s press statement describes the mystery car as a ‘version of the F-TYPE convertible.’ Maybe that’s a coupé, shooting-brake or even an ‘R’ version of the current production model, we’ll find out this coming Friday.
