The new 911 Turbo Cabriolet will premiere at the LA Auto Show on 20th November, before going on sale here in the UK from December. As per the coupé, it’s available in 513bhp Turbo or 552bhp Turbo S guise, priced at £126,766 and £149,511 respectively (a premium of around £8,500 over the coupé).
Performance is marginally slower than the hard-top, reaching 62 mph in 3.5 and 3.2 seconds respectively, while both variants can achieve a top speed of 197 mph – same as in the coupé. Porsche quote an average fuel consumption of 28.5mpg – 15 per cent more efficient than before – with CO2 emissions of 231 g/km.

Where the hard-top Turbo S boasts a ‘ring time of 7 min 30 sec, the cabriolet trades some of coupé’s speed for the delights of fast open-top motoring. As with the standard Type 991 Cabriolet, the fabric hood has been completely redesigned – using three integrated supporting magnesium elements which make it stable yet light and flexible. The resulting arch of its roof mimics that of the hard-top coupé while providing a low cd value of just 0.31.
As with the coupé the 911 Turbo cab sits 28 mm wider than a standard Carrera 4, a difference which is accentuated even more when the roof is folded.
Both models are fitted as standard with active rear-axle steering and active aerodynamics which played a big part in the Turbo S’ Nürburgring performance, even so it transforms the driving dynamics of these Type 991 Turbo models on the road.
Inside there’s the usual bounty of soft furnishing, including carbon ‘look’ trim and double cap seams on the leather-trimmed seats. An exclusive Black/Carrera Red interior is available for the Turbo S complete with adaptive Sport Seat Plus seats.
