Audi’s show car for the IAA Frankfurt is a return of the iconic quattro, 2014 style, powered by a heavily tuned version of the twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine used in the RS 6.

Inspired by the 2010 Audi Quattro concept, the new Quattro will likely to be based on an A5 floor pan and assembled at Audi’s Quattro division in Neckarsulm, Germany.

It’s being launched to mark a celebration of ‘quattro’ at the IAA Frankfurt, which will focus on the company’s four-wheel drive history from the 1980s through to the present day.

Details are limited, but we understand the Quattro concept’s 408bhp turbocharged 2.5-litre, five-cylinder engine will be replaced by a version of the twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 used in the RS 6 and RS 7, with pricing of the limited-edition model positioning it well above £100,000.

Power is rumoured to exceed 600bhp – 40bhp more than the new RS 6 – making sub-four second 0-62mph acceleration entirely possible.

With these first drawings released this morning, expect to hear more news of Audi’s 2015 Quattro during the coming weeks.
