Dutch supercar maker Vencer will be at this year’s Salon Privé in London’s Syon Park with the brand new ‘Sarthe’ – named after a certain 24 hour endurance race.

If you haven’t heard of Vencer that’s because its completely new – established in 2012 by Robert Cobben – and the Sarthe is their first car. It made its world premiere in April at Monaco’s Top Marques show after two years of development.

The Vencer Sarthe is built on a hybrid space frame chassis with a chrome-molybdenum safety structure and rear sub-frame and a floor made of an aluminium honeycomb structure. The body shell is constructed from carbon fibre and the total car weighs just 1,390kg, distributed 45:55 between the front and rear.

At 4,515mm long it’s around the same size as a Porsche 911 and features a double wishbone suspension all round.

The Vencer Sarthe is powered by a GM-sourced V8 engine mounted in the middle of the chassis, and producing 503bhp and 479lb-ft (650Nm) of torque. With around 362 bhp per tonne its performance is suitably rapid – Vencer claim a top speed of 202mph and zero to 62mph acceleration in 3.8 seconds. The engine is linked to a six-speed manual gearbox, which transfers its power to the 20 inch rear wheels via a limited slip differential.

The Sarthe may look like a stereotypical supercar, but the company is far from being a conventional car maker – based on the principles of crowd-sourced innovation, Vencer aim to jointly develop its cars using the creativity and preferences of car enthusiasts around the world. A competition is already under way on their website for the next Vencer model, where you can submit and vote on your favourite designs.
