His was a remarkable career the first time around. A record seven world championship titles, 91 Grand Prix victories and 68 pole positions. Michael Schumacher may have had a little assistance along the way from team mates, team principals and a few unwilling adversaries, but remove the controversies and there still stands a man who justifiably has become a legend of the sport.

On Tuesday 8 May, Jacques Villeneuve will take to the Fiorano track at the wheel of the 312 T4 driven by his father Gilles in 1979, the season that he and Jody Scheckter brought the Scuderia the Constructors’ title, with the South African also taking the Drivers’ World Championship.

Electric-powered cars have only recently begun lapping Germany's Nürburgring Norschleife and even then it was more to prove that their ability to lap the 20.8 km Green-Hell on a single charge. That was certainly the aim of the MINI E in April 2010 when it scorched around the lap in a record-breaking 9 minutes 51.45 seconds. No, we didn't think that was terribly quick either, but at least it made it back to the pits before running out of charge. Ha ha!
