Bentley have announced six new ‘Le Mans’ Limited Edition cars, available exclusively to U.S. customers, on the flagship Mulsanne and the Continental models.
Each Limited Edition model is inspired by a driver from Bentley’s six past victories at the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours race.
Just 48 examples of each ‘Le Mans Limited Edition’ model will be produced, each with a unique Le Mans Edition numbered badge, Le Mans Edition clock face, embroidered Le Mans badge to each headrest, tread plates with the limited edition name, unique Le Mans Edition wheels and specific interior veneers and exterior colours.
Despite its modern-day reputation as a maker of luxury cruisers, Bentley has a rich heritage of motorsport competition. Founder W.O. Bentley was a determined enthusiast, using racing as a means of establishing the Bentley marque and famously promoting the group of drivers known as the ‘Bentley Boys’.
After placing fourth in the inaugural 1923 Le Mans endurance race, Bentley secured its first victory in 1924.
From 1927 to 1930, Bentley dominated the event and took victory on four consecutive occasions, while in 2003, they achieved yet another victory, placing first and second, with Guy Smith piloting the first of the two Speed 8s across the finish line.
Continental GT models will be available from the Summer, while Mulsanne Le Mans Edition models will be available towards the end of 2013.
