We’ve got two competitions to offer you this Christmas, the first on behalf of Spirit Level Film and Club GT and the second as part of our association with ROAD magazine.

Spirit Level Film are a boutique studio who acquire, distribute and produce films with one criteria… that they have to love them. That’s not much of a hurdle to climb with films such as C’était un Rendezvous, which is the focus of our first competition question.

The film, better known under the shorter title of ‘Rendezvous’ is a cult motoring movie, made by French director Claude Lelouch, and featuring a car being driven across the centre of Paris at astonishing speeds to rendezvous with a beautiful woman. The film has given rise to many questions, including:

* Was Lelouch really arrested when it was first shown?
* Who drove the car?
* Was it Lelouch or a hired Formula One driver?
* What was the car?
* Was it really a Ferrari 275 GTB?
* How (the hell!) did he do it?

Well, we have another question we would like you to answer and the winner will be offered the prize of weekend in the new Nissan GT-R provided by Club GT, or alternatively participation at a trackday with full tuition, if for some reason you’d rather not sample the fabulous GT-R. (subject to terms and conditions)

Competition ends on Friday 15 January.

To enter the first competition, take a look at a clip from the film below and then answer the following question:

How many red lights does director Claude Lelouch run in the 40 sec trailer?

When you are ready to provide your answer, pop on over to the competition form at Spirit Level Film.

What would your version of Rendezvous look like?

As a consolation prize and for a bit of fun, we have put together a second competition prize in association with ROAD magazine.

Since you’re bound to have a bit of spare time over Christmas, we’d like you to recreate one of the scenes from Rendezvous and then send us a link to your masterpiece to be reviewed by a panel of expert judges (well, perhaps just Phil and me).

The judging criteria will be based on how imaginative, funny and downright entertaining your film is and not by the adrenaline rush (i.e. fear) whilst watching it (or making it) – so please don’t be tempted to recreate the thrill of Rendezvous by driving like a loon across Manchester city centre, we won’t be applauding and neither will the authorities – take the theme of the film (i.e. travelling to somewhere in a car and meeting up with someone or something).

The best short-film will earn its creator a day out with ROAD magazine whilst they shoot a future magazine feature. We will also put together a montage of the best films submitted and see how high we can boost it amongst the ‘cars and vehicles’ category in YouTube. We welcome pros or amateurs, so don’t worry if you’ve only got a £200 digital camera and some gaffer-tape to hand.

What have you got to lose? It could be fun and you’ll get to play your part in a unique community experiment. You never know, we might even convince those nice people over at Spirit Level Film to add it to their stock list of DVDs.

To enter this second competition, we would like you to upload your films to YouTube and then link them as a ‘video comment’ on the following entry within SkiddMark’s YouTube channel.

Please also send an email to competitions@skiddmark.com with the link to your video and some basic contact details (name, contact phone number and email address).

The competition will run until 31st January 2010, with the winner being announced 7 days later. Good luck, and have a Very Merry Christmas!
