The Veneno Roadster is an open-top supercar developed by Lamborghini to sign-off its 50th Anniversary year. Based on the limited-edition Veneno first exhibited at this year’s Geneva motor show, it is powered by a 740bhp version of the Aventador’s 6.5-litre V12 engine.

Whereas only ‘three’ customers received a Veneno coupé, Roadster production is set to reach the dizzy heights of ‘nine’ units, each sold at a price of 3.3 million Euros excluding tax (approx £3.3 million).

The word Veneno roughly translates to ‘Venom’ in both Spanish and Portuguese, which seems apt for the fastest sport racing prototype which the company has ever made.

The Roadster features a rollover bar in place of a roof, with its handling and aerodynamics attuned to that of a race car, albeit with adequate space for two passengers (minus their luggage). It features the fast-shifting ISR transmission with five modes, permanent all-wheel drive and a pushrod suspension and horizontal spring/damper units.

Lamborghini quote a 0 to 62mph acceleration time of 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 221mph (355 km/h).

The unique paint colour, ‘Rosso Veneno’, was developed exclusively for the Veneno Roadster, although customers will be able to choose whichever colour they like to suit their own personal preference.

With a dry weight of just 1,490kg, the Veneno Roadster is a showcase for Lamborghini’s carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) expertise, with CFRP being used for the monocoque and all exterior panels while the brake discs are made from a carbon-ceramic material.

The two lightweight bucket seats are made from Lamborghini’s patented Forged Composite, while the entire cockpit, part of the seats and the headliner are constructed from woven carbon-fibre ‘CarbonSkin’.

Production will begin in 2014, and as expected all cars have already been sold.
