SEAT has announced more details for its soon to be released trio of warmed-over Ibizas: the FR, Cupra and Bocanegra.
All three cars are powered by the same 1.4-litre turbocharged and supercharged direct injection petrol motor, tuned for 148bhp in the FR and 178bhp in the Cupra and Bocanegra. Also fitted as standard is a seven-speed DSG gearbox and electronic limited slip diff.
SEAT says that the Cupra and Bocanegra will get to 62mph in 7.2 seconds and go on to 140mph, but they don’t give any figures for the slightly less powerful FR version.
Visually, all three get the usual performance version makeover with new front and rear bumpers – slightly different for all three models – sports seats and larger (17-inch) alloy wheels, but the Bocanegra takes things a touch further, even though the mechanical specifications remain the same as the FR and Cupra
There’s not a great deal of detail on changes to the chassis, although SEAT has said that the FR, Cupra and Bocanegra are both lower and stiffer than the rest of the range
We’re actually getting quite excited about these cars at DR, we’ll be very interested to see how well DSG works in such a small car and how the VAG twin-charged motor performs in such an overtly sporty role. Of course, a limited slip diff is a pretty enticing prospect too
Prices for the FR, Cupra and Bocanegra are £14,995, £15,996 and £16,695, respectively.
