The World Endurance Championship (WEC) season opener on 14th April will be a great day out for motorsport fans. Not only will Silverstone circuit play host to Bruno Senna driving an Aston Martin Vantage GTE, but it also marks the debut for Porsche’s all-new 991-based RSR.

While the temperature at Silverstone hovers just above freezing, the factory Porsche team has been developing the car in warmer climes – Sebring International Raceway in Florida. Sharing driving duties were works drivers Richard Lietz and Patrick Pilet, who completed the latest round of tests of Porsche’s GTE class contender.

Porsche’s Head of Motorsport Hartmut Kristen, said “We are very pleased with how the testing has gone so far, our goal is to be well prepared for the challenges of the very strong GTE class in the WEC and at Le Mans.”

“For this reason Sebring provided a very good rehearsal. We will conduct some final tests on other race tracks so that our new 911 RSR is well and truly ready for the World Endurance Championship season.”

The new 911 GT3 RSR will be run exclusively by the Porsche AG Team Manthey works squad and will mark the return of a factory Porsche entry to the Le Mans 24 hour race. The team will field two cars with the starting numbers #91 and #92, and drivers will include Marc Lieb, Richard Lietz, Patrick Pilet, Joerg Bergmeister, Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas.
